How quickly will a clerk reply to a note?

Notes sent on a working day are read the same afternoon and answered by the next working morning at the latest. Notes that arrive over the weekend are read on the Monday before the quay opens, because the counter keeps a short morning list for weekend mail.

Can I visit the counter to discuss a consignment in person?

Yes. The counter welcomes visitors during business hours, and a clerk will walk you through the Consignment Desk or any other desk at the bench. It helps to bring the arrival notice and the written order if you have them, but the clerk can begin with whatever papers you carry.

What should a first note include?

Name the cargo, the harbour and the desk you think you need, and add any hour by which the load must move. A short note with those three things is enough for the clerk to set a first line, and the house will reply with the next step rather than a long form.

The wharf audit window for the coming tide is open at the Strand 50 counter, and every client is welcome to walk the dockets with a clerk before the junk sails.
